Sustainable Tourism on Toba Lake, North Sumatra, as a Destination Super Priority on Post Covid-19 in Indonesia

14/07/2023, the ESI Team led by Prof. Eko Priyo Purnomo, M.Si., M.Res., Ph.D., as Director of the E-Governance and Sustainability Institute (ESI) researched Lake Toba, North Sumatra. This research is in collaboration with Prof.Dr.Ir. Nurhayati, M.P from UISU (Islamic University of North Sumatra), and this strengthening supported by BRIN (National Research and Innovation Agency) was carried out for approximately three days. This research carries the theme “Sustainable Tourism” as one of the interesting issues in today’s digital era. In addition, tourism areas have the potential to have a sustainable impact, especially to revitalize the “Super Priority Destination on Lake Toba,” which has been determined by the Ministry of Tourism as one of the Super Priority Destinations in Indonesia.

Lake Toba has a lot of potential, including in the field of tourism the side point view owned by Lake Toba is also one of the factors why Lake Toba can be one of the best places in the area of tourism. Although access to Lake Toba still found several obstacles, such as telecommunication networks in terms of infrastructure starting from the airport, land roads to destination locations, and creative economy products from residents also need to be developed and improved. So that super-priority destinations in Lake Toba can develop sustainably.

The output of this study is that the theme of sustainable tourism is expected to positively impact the sustainability of tourism, especially in Lake Toba. In addition to the positive impact on tourism, it has a positive effect on the environment, socio-culture, and economy in a sustainable manner.
